Dear Parents,

We welcome Hassan and Nauris to the Broughton family and hope that they will be very happy here with us. Best wishes to Ottilie who turns one today. We hope you are having a lovely day.

The Acorns showed off their artistic skills this week by using their senses to re-create the garden backdrop – early signs of spring are clearly visible and the children used their fingers to mark make in paint. They had fun during ‘Musical Bumps’ sessions, selecting instruments to accompany their ‘band’ whilst they played, sang and danced along to their favourite nursery rhymes.

The Acorns group went on a treasure hunt searching for buried and hidden treasure throughout the garden. Their ‘haul’ consisted of colourful stones and pine cones.

The Saplings and Oaks have spent the week making the most of the dry weather and Michelle took them on a Treasure Hunt with Maddie and Pip as chief plotters assigned to give out clues and suggest whether those searching were ‘hot’ or ‘cold’ – this type of group activity tests the participants problem solving skills and teamwork, keeps their focus and concentration and initiates conversations.

The older children have been discussing how exercise affects our heart rate and have been monitoring and listening to the effects both before and after exertion using a stethoscope. As part of our discussions we are also comparing healthy and unhealthy foods and the effects they have on our bodies.

Thank you, Florence, for sharing your books about a mummy having a baby in her tummy – the children loved ‘Mummy has a House in her Tummy’. This led to further discussions and plenty of role play.
