Dear Parents,

This week, the Oaks and Saplings have been busy experimenting with colour, textures and the reactions between different substances. We created sensory bottles for the Acorns and Seedlings, watching how oil reacts with water and what happens when blue meets green. The children were fascinated to learn that water is heavier or denser than oil, which is why it separates. To further their learning, the children added blue food colouring to water and added sea creatures to make it look like the sea. Bertie explained that we must not put rubbish in the water as the fish may eat it and get poorly.

The Oaks and Saplings were all very excited to see snow falling outside the window and had the opportunity to go outside and explore the sensation. The children then discussed how each snowflake was different and unique, a bit like people. A particular interest of the children this week has been transport. Some of the children developed a fun game where they used a plank of wood to create a train and lined up behind one another. They made train noises and each took it in turn to be the driver and the ticket collector.

The Acorns and Seedlings managed to get out for a walk to the park this week where the children enjoyed playing on the swings and slides, using their listening skills to discover new features of their environment. Hassan, in particular has liked being outside, and developed an interest in catching the rain from the gutters and filling and emptying containers as a result. They also spent a considerable amount of time looking at the new wood burner which when lit; the children were fascinated by it. They discussed the colours of the fire and how it was hot. To further this, the children drew pictures of the fire, using crayons, paints and our fingers to make marks. They also used their physical development in the Active Room to dance and move to music. Using coloured silk scarves, they extended their movements by making them larger. Alongside this, the children took part in gymnastics to further their development, stretching their muscles and practising their balancing.

We have a number of new faces that have joined our Nursery family. Welcome to Ella, Rafferty, and Arthur. They have been welcomed by the other children and are already developing friendships with them. James in particular has showed a very sensitive and nurturing side by helping to comfort his new friends who are settling. 

World Book Day – We shall be celebrating World Book Day throughout week. If you would like your child to come to nursery dressed as their favourite character, we would be delighted for them to join the fun.

Staffing news – We welcome Fleur Glancey, Anne Sayer, Lisa Rhodes, Zoe Boyles and Lucy Armstrong who are all joining the Broughton Team this week. We shall make introductions as we see you.

From March our groups will be as follows:

Acorns – will be looked after by Fleur and Anne

Seedlings – will be looked after by Sarah and Zoe (who will take over from Sarah at 3pm when she leaves, but work from 2pm), Lisa and Lucy assisting.

Saplings – Paige, Monika and Susan.

Oaks – Karen

Finally, we would like to wish Frankie a Happy Birthday for Thursday and Michelle for Wednesday, we hope you had a fantastic day.
