Dear Parents,

A Happy New Year to you all. We would like to welcome our new entrants who have recently joined us; it is lovely to see so many children attending the nursery and enjoying every minute of it.

This week, the children have been focusing on ‘All About Me’ where they will develop their self-help skills along with their understanding of the world. This topic will allow the children to practice brushing their teeth and toilet training, as well as furthering their knowledge of how different cultures live and how this differs from their own home life. The children have already been drawing self-portraits, looking at the colour of their hair and their eyes as well as any other distinctive features that they may have. This, in turn, has furthered their ability to understand that they we are all unique as we compare ourselves to others. In addition to this, they are learning about patterns and change in their day-to-day lives.

Another large part of this week has been focused on being outdoors. On Thursday the children were outside for a considerable amount of time and certainly enjoyed themselves (this was evident by the mud they amassed!) As you all know, we have had a lot of wet weather recently and this has led to many discussions amongst the children, for example; Bertie explained to us that the wet weather was a result of the ‘changing of the seasons’. This led onto further conversations about Global Warming and how this can cause a lot of different weather patterns. Some of the children were very excited by the amount of mud there was available, playing with the dinosaurs and stomping in the mud, in particular; Alf, Elle and Thomas who were delighted at having the opportunity to get covered. On Friday we took the opportunity to explore the wider area and had a wonderful walk to the local nature reserve. Using magnifying glasses, the children sought out insects and bugs. We shall start to record the data that they find as we make these trips a regular occurrence.

As we now have a considerable number of children attending the Nursery, we ask that you label the children’s wellington boots as well as their coats. Each child can seek out their peg by finding their picture to ensure there is no confusion. The team have also begun to upload items onto the Baby’s Days platform for each individual child, if you have not received an email with your log in details or have any trouble using the programme then please do ask us.
