Dear Parents,
This week we have been busy learning all about colours. To support this the children took part in colour sorting activities. Using a variety of objects in specific shades, we matched each item to corresponding paper. After a few attempts, Danny and Alf were able to match all the objects correctly. Textures were discussed and recorded whether they be smooth; bumpy; hard, soft, rough etc. Humphrey was able to identify that the majority were hard and smooth. To further extend their learning, the children took beanbags and threw them into matching hula hoops whilst calling out the colour name; this activity was also a good test of their physical skills and hand-eye coordination.
We have also been continuing our space theme and discussing rockets. On Saturday 30th May, SpaceX will be launching 7.22pm UK time, (3.22pm US time) and you will be able to watch the live stream here: https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/main/index.html. We have been talking to the children about this event as Humphrey often points out that the Sun is in space and that it is not a planet. We will further investigate the different planets as well as researching how astronauts discover them and all their many qualities.
As the weather is still beautiful, the children have been taking part in a lot of water play activities, using different jugs and vessels to water the plants, as well as helping Paige and Michelle use the hose on occasion. The children have set up a car wash using large sponges and soapy water to help to wash their diggers, which often get covered in mud and sand, using their gross motor skills as well as paying attention to the finer details to ensure they get nice and clean.
The children have been busy taking part in a number of physical activities in the garden. We have spent a considerable amount of time playing football, practicing our catching skills and developing our gross motor skills kicking balls. Thomas and Humphrey love playing football and are very good at passing the ball to one another. The children have also been learning to play tennis. Humphrey got a little frustrated as he couldn’t bounce the ball more than once on his racket but persisted and was extremely excited when he managed two bounces. Alf was also very excited to play tennis and spent a considerable amount of time intently concentrating on bouncing the balls on the racket.
We would like to wish Alf a Happy Birthday for Saturday as he is turning 2 and also Happy Birthday wishes are sent to James and Hassan as they too are turning 2 years old on Sunday and Wednesday respectively. We hope you have a fantastic day!
