Staffing news – We will be bidding Fiona a fond farewell at the end of the month as she retires. We wish her a very relaxing and peaceful retirement.

Seedlings:
This week, the Seedlings have carried on with their ‘on the beach’ theme.
We asked each child to draw around their own hand on pieces of card. Oliver opted for card with a rainbow pattern and Otis selected a shiny blue sheet.
They then turned the handprints into fish puppets complete with two eyes and a coloured lollipop stick. Next, the Seedlings then got messy using paint and sand to create a beach scene, painting their own hands to portray their own interpretation of a crab.
The Seedlings adored being tasked with crafting special cards to give to their dads on Sunday. To do this, the children used a potato to create marks that represented a tomato (love you from … tomato(oes). This sparked up a discussion on where tomatoes come from and how they grow. The children then signed their cards.

Saplings:
This week, the Saplings have been looking at the subject of summer.
We discussed what essentials we might need to use when it gets really warm when the sun comes out. William said ‘suncream,’ while Holly suggested an ‘umbrella.’ We also danced and sang along to a song which was all about putting on our sun lotion.
The children have also been very busy making something special for their dads this week as well. We’ve seen some fabulous creativity from everyone.
Another activity saw the Saplings play The Farmer’s In His Den and Theo loved being a dog standing in the middle of the ring.
Next week we’ll continue our theme of summer and will be doing lots more exciting activities.

Oaks 1
Oaks 1 have had a very sporty week this week, all in preparation for our sports day, we have been working hard on team spirit getting into groups and cheering on our peers to encourage our friends to finish the race , everybody has found been very supportive.
Our cake sale was a huge success with thanks to all the parents who helped us raise £91.85p for NSPCC, Ophelia enjoyed playing shop owner and looking after all our lovely customers.
Show and tell has been very interesting this week with George showing his favourite trainers which got damaged and required mending; he was very proud to let us know how he fixed the. Rosie informed us that she liked to collect things whilst out and about and showed her friends the egg shell she discovered
which she believes is from a blackbird. This inspired the children to build homes for our feathered friends using twigs, leaves and flowers found around the garden.
The recycling lorry creates quite a draw each week and Oscar has been sharing his knowledge of where the items collected go and what their destination and reimagining might be. It’s comforting to know that the children are so engrossed in the topic to help the fight in protecting our environment.

Acorns:
The Acorns have spent the week exploring their new beach topic and the children thoroughly enjoyed having the chance to engage in lots of sensory play.
The Acorns started off by investigating what happens when two different materials are mixed together. They were intrigued to see the outcome of combining sand and shaving foam. The children used a variety of tools to blend the sand and foam such as spades and shovels. It’s safe to say they all loved the gloopy mixture that was created! To extend the activity, the children made marks in the solution with cars.
In preparation for Father’s Day, the youngsters got creative making fabulously colourful cards and gifts. The children enjoyed using the different coloured paints and brushes to create an array of eye-catching patterns on the front of their cards. They then moved on to making meaningful handprint presents from
clay. We’re sure you’ll love the poems we attached to them.

Oaks 2:
This week in Oaks 2, we’ve been getting prepared for Father’s Day with lots of fun activities.
All of the children made rocket ship cards as a nod to the phrase ‘I love you to the moon and back’. Xander told us that he zoomed off into space with his dad and saw lots of scary monsters. Continuing from this, we read Space Tortoise by Ross Montgomery. The youngsters pointed to which items in the book they thought would be helpful when it comes to building a rocket.
We also made fruit kebabs, with the children trying ever so hard to cut the fruit into shapes. Once finished, they were enjoyed as a snack.
We didn’t let the damp weather ruin our spirits and headed outside to play in the rain. Oaks 2 sang along to ‘Rain, Rain Go Away’ as they jumped up and down in puddles.
